They're starting new programs, including teaming up with a company called Zillow and using online ways to help more people find the housing assistance they need.
What’s Happening?
- HUD's Big Plans: HUD is expanding counseling services to help more people buy homes, avoid foreclosure, and find affordable housing. This is aimed at providing opportunities for homeownership, especially in underserved communities.
- New Partnership with Zillow: HUD is collaborating with Zillow to promote their "Let's Make Home the Goal" campaign. By displaying ads for HUD's housing counseling on Zillow's popular website, they aim to reach millions of potential homebuyers, particularly those from communities of color who have faced unfair barriers in the past.
- What Did They Do Before: Last year, HUD's campaign reached almost 5 million people across 15 different media markets. And with Zillow's help, they hope to connect with over 8 million potential homeowners in 42 markets this year.
- Easier Access to Housing Counseling: HUD is changing rules to make it easier for housing counseling agencies to help people over the phone or through the internet, allowing more people to get help, especially if they can't meet in person due to language barriers, distance, or travel costs.

Adrianne Todman from HUD said that they give advice to thousands of Americans about housing every day. With these new steps, they hope to help even more people, especially new generations of homeowners and families aiming to build wealth.
Zillow’s team is excited too. They’ve always wanted to make housing information easy to find and believe that teaming up with HUD is another way to help people get into homes of their own and close the gap for those who’ve been left out of the homeownership dream before.
Starting from October 16, 2024, these new rules will kick in, making it easier for everyone to get the help they need with housing, whether it's buying a home, finding an affordable place to rent, or avoiding foreclosure.
